About Fettes College
Edinburgh's flagship co-ed boarding+day school, founded 1870 in a Grade A-listed Scott Bryce building — A-Level + IB Diploma, ~800 pupils ages 7-18.
Fettes College was founded in 1870 with a bequest from Sir William Fettes, in a Grade A-listed building designed by David Bryce on a 100-acre Edinburgh campus. About 800 pupils across Prep and Senior schools, fully co-educational. The Senior School runs both A-Level and IB Diploma at sixth form — an unusual offer for a Scottish boarding school and one of the reasons international families pick Fettes over English boarding alternatives. Notable alumni include former UK Prime Minister Sir Tony Blair. Recent leavers' destinations include Oxford, Cambridge, Edinburgh, St Andrews and leading US universities.

Fettes College was founded in 1870 under the will of Sir William Fettes (Lord Provost of Edinburgh) as a Scottish boys' boarding school. The school operates today on a 90-acre campus in central Edinburgh, dominated by David Bryce's spectacular 1870 Victorian Gothic main building (Grade A listed Scottish historic monument). Fettes became co-educational in 1980 and today educates around 750 pupils with a substantial boarding population. The Head is Helen Harrison.
The school is a member of the HMC and the Boarding Schools Association and offers the IB Diploma alongside A-Levels. The school's most internationally famous alumnus is Sir Tony Blair KG — Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1997 to 2007 (three consecutive Labour election victories in 1997, 2001 and 2005, the only Labour leader to do so), the Prime Minister who led Britain into the 2003 Iraq War, and one of the most consequential British politicians of the post-war period. Blair attended Fettes from 1966 to 1971.
The Oscar-winning actress Tilda Swinton — winner of the 2008 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for Michael Clayton, the white witch Jadis in the Chronicles of Narnia films, the Ancient One in Doctor Strange — was a Fettes pupil. The actress Olivia Williams (The Sixth Sense, Manhattan, The Father) was a Fettes girl. The school operates a substantial bursary programme via the Fettes Foundation.
