Supplementary catalogue notes ·

Queens Gate School was founded in 1891 as a girls' school on Queens Gate in South Kensington, central London — opposite the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Natural History Museum. The school operates today on the original Queens Gate site and is girls-only ages 4-18. The Headmistress is Rosalynd Kamaryc. The school is a member of the GSA and is inspected by the ISI.

The school's most internationally famous alumnae are the actresses Vanessa Redgrave CBE — winner of the 1977 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress (Julia), Tony Award winner (Long Day's Journey Into Night), Cannes Best Actress (Morgan!) and one of the great English-language theatre actresses of her generation — and her sister Lynn Redgrave OBE — Oscar-nominated for Gods and Monsters (1998). Both were Queens Gate girls in the 1950s. The school operates a substantial bursary programme.

Home About Us Share About Us Queen’s Gate School is an independent school for girls aged 4-18 located on Queen’s Gate, in South Kensington, London. Founded in 1891, the school has long held a reputation for its originality. Our fundamental goal is that each girl should become the very best version of herself, making the most of her individual strengths, gifts and talents. Our girls hold themselves and each other to high standards, but always with a lightness of heart. At Queen’s Gate, we are not afraid to laugh at ourselves.

Queen’s Gate is an academically aspirational school, where we seek for each girl to go beyond her individual academic potential. We have no one-size-fits-all definition of success; rather, we provide the guidance and conditions for each girl to reach beyond what she might have thought possible. At Queen’s Gate, we aim to be a greenhouse rather than a hothouse – deliberately cultivating a supportive, collaborative and positive atmosphere, governed by our belief that happy girls are more likely to overachieve.

Our success in supporting each girl to exceed her potential is proven by our incredible value-added scores, measures of how far beyond her baseline potential each girl has gone. Here, we are consistently placed among the top-ten schools in the country, proof of what Queen’s Gate enables our girls to achieve.
