Ek katalog notları ·
Truro School was founded in 1880 by a group of Methodist Cornish merchants and clergymen to provide affordable Methodist boarding-school education for the boys of Cornwall. The school sits today on a 40-acre campus in central Truro — the small cathedral city that serves as the administrative and ecclesiastical capital of Cornwall — with the Truro Cathedral (built 1887, the youngest English Anglican cathedral) immediately visible from the school grounds. Truro School became co-educational in 1990 and today educates around 808 pupils ages 3-18 with a substantial boarding population. The Head is Andrew Gordon-Brown.
The school is a member of the HMC and the Methodist Schools Association and is inspected by the ISI. The school remains the principal Methodist independent school of Cornwall and operates within the broader Methodist Independent Schools Trust framework that also includes Kingswood School Bath, Culford School and others.
The school's geographic position on the Atlantic Cornish coast — about thirty minutes from the surfing beaches of north Cornwall (Newquay, Polzeath, Watergate Bay) and forty minutes from the south coast beaches — has produced a strong outdoor and water-sports programme, including a notable surfing programme that is rare among UK independent schools. The school maintains traditional boarding-school co-curricular activities — rugby, cricket, hockey, music, drama — alongside the distinctive Cornish maritime and outdoor programme.
The school's academic profile is strong West Country independent — solid A-Level results and a strong Oxbridge / Russell Group pipeline reflecting the substantial bursary programme. The school operates a substantial bursary programme via the Methodist Independent Schools Trust, intended to provide educational access for Cornish families regardless of family means and maintaining the founders' Methodist principle of educational access.
