ACS Cobham International School was founded in 1967 as the original American Community Schools campus, intended to serve the children of US diplomatic, military and corporate families posted to London. It is the longest-established American international school in the United Kingdom — a 59-year history — and the founding campus of what is now a four-school ACS International Schools network (Cobham, Hillingdon, Egham, and ACS Doha in Qatar). The schools have been owned since 2017 by the international schools group Cognita.
ACS Cobham is co-educational, ages 2-18, with around 1,267 pupils representing more than 70 nationalities. The Head of School is Barnaby Sandow. The school is set on a 128-acre rural campus on the edge of Cobham, Surrey, with extensive sports facilities including a competition-grade indoor pool, a full American football field, baseball diamond, performing-arts centre and a custom-built early-years and elementary campus.
ACS Cobham is unusual among UK schools in offering all three of the principal English-medium school-leaving qualifications: the American High School Diploma, the College Board's Advanced Placement programme, and the International Baccalaureate Diploma. The school is accredited by the NEASC (New England Association of Schools and Colleges) — the principal accrediting body for American secondary schools — and by the Council of International Schools.
The school's geographic and demographic profile reflects its role serving expatriate families: pupils typically remain for 2-5 years before relocating with their families. Graduates progress in roughly equal proportions to top US universities (with strong representation at Ivy League and selective liberal-arts institutions), to UK Russell Group universities (via the IB Diploma route), and to Canadian and European international universities.
