The King's School Rochester is the second-oldest school in the English-speaking world, founded in 604 AD by King Æthelberht of Kent when he established Rochester Cathedral (the second English cathedral after Canterbury). The school's 1,422-year history places it behind only the King's School Canterbury (597 AD) among English schools. The school sits today in the medieval precincts of Rochester Cathedral, on the bank of the River Medway in north Kent. The Headmaster is Ben Charles.
The school is co-educational ages 3-18 with around 652 pupils. The school is a member of the HMC and the Cathedral Schools Association. The school's choristers form the choir of Rochester Cathedral, maintaining a 1,422-year cathedral choral tradition. The school operates a substantial bursary programme via the Rochester Cathedral Schools Foundation.

As the world’s second oldest school, our heritage and history inspires us every day as pupils walk between lessons under the shadow of Rochester Cathedral, which we are privileged to use as our Chapel. Weekly services are held here for the Preparatory and Senior Schools and we are very lucky to be able to hold many of our musical and choral events within its Norman walls.
We nurture the individual and celebrate diversity of talent – there truly is no typical King’s pupil. Each and every one is unique, and is treated as such. King’s School Rochester is a school for life, where pupils are prepared for life beyond education. We support this with our extra-curricular and careers activities whilst at the School, and then when a child leaves, we keep in touch and follow their journey, ensuring that they always remain a valued member of the King’s community.
Through all the raids, battles and drama, King's School has stood under its impressive shadow, educating the children of Rochester.
